Accessibility statement

This site is built to work for everyone who needs it: on a cheap phone, on a slow connection, with a keyboard, with a screen reader, with large text, or in bright sunlight. Accessibility is part of the build, not a later fix.

Our target

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 at level AA. Where something falls short, we say so below rather than leaving you to discover it.

What is in place now

Accessibility measures and how they were checked
MeasureWhat it means for you How it was checked
Text contrast Body, secondary, button, badge and status colours all meet or exceed 4.5:1; focus rings and borders meet 3:1. Measured with the WCAG contrast formula for every pair in the design system, in light and dark themes — tools/contrast-check.py.
Keyboard use Everything can be reached and operated with a keyboard, including the mobile menu and the filters. Built on native elements; no click-only controls; focus moves into the mobile menu when it opens and returns when it closes.
Visible focus The focused element is always clearly outlined, in both themes. A 3px focus ring in the brand amber family, darkened on light surfaces so it is never lost.
Skip link Keyboard users can jump straight to the main content. Present on every page and verified to target the main region.
Touch targets Buttons and links are large enough to hit with a thumb. A minimum 48px control height is a design token, not a per-page decision.
Motion If your device asks for reduced motion, the site respects it and animates nothing. The prefers-reduced-motion setting disables transitions, animations and smooth scrolling.
Colour is never the only signal Status is always written in words as well as coloured — "Training Available", "Coming in Next Wave", "CERTIFICATE VERIFIED". Status components pair a text label with the colour; the six-cell zone graphic repeats its meaning as text.
Images Informative images are described; decorative ones are ignored by screen readers instead of being described as "image". Every image is checked for alt text; decorative graphics carry an empty alt and are hidden from assistive technology.
Forms Every field has a label, instructions where needed, and errors described in words. Labels are real labels; hints are tied to the field; errors are announced and never depend on colour.
Tables on small screens Data tables restack into labelled rows instead of forcing sideways scrolling. Column headings are copied onto each cell so the table still makes sense as a list.
Zoom and small screens Text stays readable when zoomed, and the layout reflows without sideways scrolling. Tested from 320px upwards at 100% and 200% zoom.

Known limitations

  • Documents offered for download as PDFs may not be fully accessible. We will publish accessible alternatives as files are released.
  • The registration and report forms are delivered by an external service, so their accessibility is not entirely within our control. We will test them with a screen reader before launch and will route specific problems to the Academy.
  • Audio jingles are not yet published; when they are, a transcript will be published with each one.
  • Automatic translations are not used. Translations are produced and reviewed by native speakers.
CR-026 Content required

A full manual accessibility audit, including screen-reader testing with NVDA and TalkBack, has not yet been carried out.

Telling us about a problem

If something here blocks you, that is a fault on our side and we want to know. Report it through the concern reporting route or the Academy's published channels, and say which page and what happened.

CR-027 Content required

The route for accessibility complaints, the person accountable for them and the response time are to be confirmed by the Academy.

How this was assessed

This statement describes the design build. Automated structural checks were run across every page (headings, image alternative text, duplicate identifiers, link targets, form labels), and contrast was measured numerically for every colour pair in both themes. A manual keyboard and screen-reader pass, and testing on real low-end Android hardware, are scheduled before launch.

CR-028 Content required

Statement version and review date pending. This statement will be reissued after the manual audit.
